Details of Achievements :
Major Activities/Achievements : Discipleship Centre extends a helping hand to facilitate sustainable and holistic transformation, in the lives of people who are in need, to enable them to achieve maximum potential through Care, Compassion and Concern. DC has responded to disasters in the country with immediate relief. DC facilitated in rehabilitating poor through need based interventions. DC targets the most underprivileged and needy with special focus on the needs of women, children and the disabled. DC’s integrated community programs strives for sustainable development to empower the poor and the vulnerable through community participation and resource mobilization. At present development programs are being carried out in the areas of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Orissa, and the Tsunami hit coastal belts of India. The emphasis is on the capacity building of communities through leadership development. The community-based committees are nurtured and empowered. The Disaster Risk Reduction programs of DC tackle the problems of flood prone villages in different states of India dual process of capacity building and physical interventions. In the drought prone areas of Rajasthan, DC has revived the traditional methods of water harvesting like ponds, check dams and underground cisterns. Planting of drought resistant fruit trees, fodder banks and improved agricultural methods are leading towards the goal of poverty alleviation. There is effective net working with government agencies, institutions and other NGOs. Education is a vital component of all DC’s development program. The non-formal literacy programs are committed to the wholistic development of children. The focus is on general equity. Women’s empowerment has been a major achievement of DC. Economic independence is ensured through SHGs, micro enterprises with effective bank linkages. DC is working in the midst of the urban poor, living in the slums of Delhi. For the last three decades the Centre for the Visually Impaired has been working towards the rehabilitation of the visually challenged. The IT training program has equipped several visually impaired to find profitable employment.The talking library has literature specially study material available in easily accessible formats.
