ACORD’s Major Activities/Achievements ACORD is a non-profit registered society, with 28 years of work and expertise in: · Participative change-management · Multi-stakeholder Large Group Problem solving workshops · Discovering “Common-ground” among different and opposite interest-groups · Building “ownership” for implementation of consensus-based solutions · Sustainable Poverty-Alleviation Programs · Information, Motivation and Change programs in urban, rural & organisational settings · Group Dynamics Workshops for achievement motivation and result-improvement · “Communication for Change”: Films, Street Plays, Folk-media for Socio-economic development · Consultancy, Training, Survey research, Field-projects Awards · ACORD is an NGO in Special Consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the UN since 1999. · ACORD designed, facilitated and implemented the “Bhagidari Initiative” for “Citizens’ partnership with Government” in Delhi, which received the First Prize in 2005 from the U.N. in the shape of the United Nations Public Service Award (for Transparency, Accountability and Public Service) out of 215 entries globally. · The “Bhagidari” project design and delivery was also awarded the Commonwealth Association’s CAPAM Award for “innovation in governance” (2002). Some of the projects undertaken by ACORD in this area of citizens’ partnership in governance are listed below: City-Wide Change Management · Bhagidari Workshops for “Citizens’ Partnership in Governance” for Government of NCT of Delhi (2000-2009), involving 3000+ RWAs and 9 Departments + MCD/NDMC · “Future Search” Workshops for Planning Commission, Government of Delhi, Government of Rajasthan. · “Sahbhagita” Workshops for citizens’ participation in governance in Rajasthan Public Participation and Awareness Workshops · Workshops for MCD Officials on Segregation of Waste · Workshops on Domestic Solid Waste Segregation under “Yamuna Action Plan – II” Programmes “Public Participation and Public Awareness Programme” Under “Yamuna Action Plan – I”: Objective: to create Public Awareness on the current status of the Yamuna River and its sources of Pollution. Project on “Upgrading Environment Quality of Delhi”: Focus: improving the status of Solid Waste Management in Delhi. Achieved enhanced awareness among the stakeholders about the need for efficient management of domestic and institutional solid waste, and its relationship with developing & sustaining a healthy environment. Field Programmes Micro Enterprises for Poverty Alleviation: ACORD has been working in 27 villages of the Sewar Block of Bharatpur (Rajasthan) district, running the Micro-enterprise project for poor rural women, and providing skill-based training to young women and men for more than a decade. Health: ACORD has worked in 80 villages in 8 Blocks of Bharatpur (Rajasthan) and 10 villages in Fatehpur Sikri (Uttar Pradesh). Focus: to reduce infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate, increase couple-protection rate and age of marriage. Local Self Governance Local Governance: After the 73rd amendment ACORD conducted workshops on “Role of Women in Panchayti Raj” for NGO representatives from 22 states of India. Over the last 28 years, ACORD has provided its services in almost all parts of the country, and also to some neighboring countries, USA and different United Nations Organisations.
