Details of Achievements :

Major Activities/Achievements : Over the past five years, Indraprastha Public Affairs Centre  has taken a number of activities and achieved significant results. As a professional support organisation the areas of work for IPAC are decided by the partner groups. After a detailed needs assessment with them the following have been delineated as the thrust areas for IPAC for some time to come. • Citizenship Building: Drawing inspiration from the Constitution of India, the organisation has undertaken a number of awareness and skill building workshops with the youth, both school going and community based. The focal point of citizenship building has been the agenda of fundamental duties that each and every citizen should be aware of, and should try to work towards their realization. • Sustainable Development: One of the core thematic areas that IPAC has chosen to work is sustainable development. An important intervention in this respect was preparatory process for Rio+20 held in 2012. Since sustainable development is a wide area, we have further focused on the issues of Right to Development, fair climate, and energy security. These issue are addressed in an over arching framework of inclusion and gender justice. • Women Human Rights Defenders: ‘Women human rights defenders’ include women active in human rights defence; who are targeted for who they are, and what they do. IPAC got initiated in issues around WHRDs with its work on capacity building and policy influencing in North East India, especially, Manipur and Assam. IPAC aims to strengthen capacities of WHRD through regular capacity building session on different issues and areas of work, and to advocate for and develop a strong, effective and sustainable protection mechanism for WHRDs at the state and national levels. • Migration: IPAC believes that migration needs to be seen as a basic human freedom deriving from the right to mobility. We think that migration is a fact and people will always migrate, although the character of this migration may change in the future. IPAC’s initiatives to address migration reflect this essential belief. Some key areas of work on this issue are: advocacy for a National Migration Policy, networking and mobilization, social security, and generating awareness, capacity building and skill development In addition to the above, IPAC in its initial years, also focused on the community health in the resettlement areas of Delhi, in particular, the Bawana industrial area. The health programme has also reached out to adolescent girls for information and capacity building on reproductive health. This programme has proved to be very successful also at the school level.
