Major Activities/Achievements : Harit Recyclers Association (HRA) is a membership based organization of waste- collectors working for the rights of waste collectors as well as fighting against the government policy of privatization, since long. At present, Harit Recyclers Association is having more than 22,000 waste collectors and small junk dealers as our members. Harit Recyclers Association is working in 60 locations in five districts of Delhi (India) and the adjacent districts of Uttarpradesh and Haryana namely in Gaziabad, Gautam Budhha Nagar, Faridabad and Gurgaon. Harit Recyclers Association has been set up, organized and their capacity for leadership has been built, as part of its work of organizing the informal recycling sector. Harit Recyclers Association’s mission is to advocate for the legal recognition and social and political respect for primary level waste collectors and for their recognition as environmental service providers and to avail the legal and municipal status that is deserved by them. Working with a right based approach, Harit Recyclers Association is continuously working for the rights of waste collectors. Social & legal recognition of the waste collectors, sustainable livelihood opportunities for them has now become our primary agenda with a special focus on various environmental issues. Harit Recyclers Association has trained more than 5000 waste collectors and provided them with basic requirement used in their work as Gloves, Apron, Mask, Shoes etc. with the help Department of Environment. Govt. of NCT of Delhi. HRA has also united then and provided the basic legal protection from the government administration. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Mrs. Sheila Dixit and she promised the waste collectors to provide the basic requirement to them. The programme was attended by the Minister of Industries, and Urban Development. The HRA is fighting for the development and working for providing the legal protection to the waste collectors. HRA has worked for the collection of the Tetra –Pak and its recycling on the mass. Tetra pak is the greatest threat of the modern society and upmost thing that made the community ugly. The HRA has convinced the government and the company along with the waste collector. The Tetra pak company has provided the machinery for the recycling of the tetra pak. Now HRA is collecting and recycling the pak generated in the Delhi. HRA is also working for the development and up-liftment of the women. Harit Recyclers Association with the support of Ministry of Environment and Forests has established 4 hand-looms which are based on the reuse of the polythene. With the help of these loom it is producing many product developed with of the used polythene. Harit Recyclers Association is also working many other diverse fields.
