Details of Achievements :

Major Activities/Achievements : EKATRA Ekatra is a non-profit NGO founded in 1988 in Delhi, working in partnership with other NGOs in pursuance of its major activities related to women’s studies and development. Ekatra works in many areas vital for women’s empowerment such as research, documentation, evaluation of women’s and community programs, advocacy, training, field interventions and providing technical support to NGOs. Thematically, Ekatra has worked on broad issues of (i) social, development and human rights issues such as women and child health, child rights, and female foeticide and dowry; (ii) governance and training needs thereof; (iii) economic stability for poor women, looking at employment and related areas of skill upgradation, marketing and organization. Since 2004, Ekatra has focussed on female foeticide and dowry-related violence against women in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. A study was also undertaken on the implementation of the PCPNDT Act in Haryana and Punjab. Both these were supported by IFES. Ekatra produced a film Uska Aana, which is a visual presentation based on some of these themes. Ekatras work is aimed at the political and economic empowerment of underprivileged women and improvement in their status, through action-oriented research aimed at gendering policy. It has always taken up taken up current issues which assume importance for women in the wake of policy changes.
