Major Activities/Achievements : Shri Vasant Sathe, former Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and President, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), had observed ‘In the present clime of unethical and unprofessional attitudes both on the parts of artistes as well as organizers, the services of an efficient Impresario was greatly needed. Through Impresario India, Bijan Mukherjee, a former Director, ICCR in-charge of international cultural manifestations in India for over 35 years, is amply serving the cause and in the process providing humane services to the society.’ Thumri Queen, Late Smt. Naina Devi laid the Impresario India for the Society in January 1993. Master painter, Baba Bhavesh Sanyal nurtured it till his last breath. Former President of India, Dr R Venkataraman, Diplomats like Shri Lalit Mansingh, Smt. Veena Sikri, eminent art historians, artistes and journalists have provided the much needed guidance and inspiration. Impresario India is a platform where the “present meets the past and looks forward to the future” – where every year hundreds of talented young artistes get opportunity to visit Delhi and present their art, interact with their counterparts and exchange creative ideas. Primary objectives of the institution are: (a) revive, promote and propagate India’s traditional art forms in both its folk and classical forms. Its endeavour is to retain cultural roots of India in all it diverse forms and disseminate its knowledge and appreciation equally among the connoisseurs and the uninitiated; (b) encourage and promote new talents and creative works in the field of arts (c) welfare of the physically challenged, economically weaker sections of the society. Besides week-end cultural programmes Impresario India organizes five major festivals in dance, drama and music every year covering all the regional arts of the country. Some of them are: (a) National Festival of New Choreographies presenting new creations in classical dance forms. (b) Festival of Arts from the Banks of Brahmaputra presenting the art heritage of Assam. (c) A month long programme based on Tagore’s works involving artistes from Kolkatta, Delhi and Bangladesh. (d) Occasional get-togethers of artistes and art-lovers. (e) Get-togethers of special children on light entertainment programmes on festive occasions. (f) Festival of folk and traditional arts of India and neighbouring countries. Impresario India is registered under the Societies Registration Act of the National Capital of Delhi on 21 April, 1994 under Registration No. S-25881. Pan Number is AAAT10198M. Funds are raised through annual donations from patrons, members, souvenir advertisements and project sponsorships/support from government departments/PSUs/corporates. Its governing body consists of people of distinction in the fields of art, literature and culture. Donations for its activities are exempt from Income Tax under Section 80G. In view of an ever growing need, Impresario India has continued to expand its work for social objectives. It has continued to extend support to the centres of ‘Children of the World’ for the nourishment and education of orphaned children; through the ‘Aurobindo Education Society’ and ‘Sahan Society of handicapped children’ in sponsoring education of deserving students from the economically weaker and physically handicapped community; through ‘Bharat Sevashram Sangha’ for relief of the victims of natural calamity, medical care for those from the underprivileged sections etc. Get-togethers of special children with normal children, financial assistance for treatment of artistes in their old age, encouraging and presenting cultural programmes by physically challenged, are also some of its ongoing activities.
